The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) is a non-profit trade association representing the UK mortgage lending industry. It is the UK’s leading representative body for the mortgage industry, representing lenders, surveyors, intermediaries and other related organisations. The CML’s primary purpose is to promote and represent members’ interests in the UK housing market. It works to ensure that lenders and intermediaries are able to deliver a safe, fair and efficient mortgage market, and that homebuyers are given the necessary advice and guidance to make informed decisions. The CML also provides an authoritative source of industry data, research and best practice advice, as well as representing the industry in discussions with the government, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders. The CML’s scope is wide ranging and covers all aspects of residential mortgage lending, including mortgage products, the regulatory environment, consumer protection, affordability and sustainability.
