The Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) is a government body in the United Kingdom responsible for managing the public sector’s access to, and use of, information. OPSI works to ensure that information collected and held by public sector organisations is made available to the public, in order to promote openness, transparency and accountability. OPSI is responsible for the management and operation of the UK’s Information Asset Register (IAR), which is a central repository of information held by UK public sector bodies. OPSI is also responsible for the implementation of public sector freedom of information laws, including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004. In the context of UK housing, OPSI is responsible for ensuring that housing organisations are compliant with the relevant laws regarding the right of access to, and use of, information related to housing, such as rents, waiting lists and other housing-related matters.
